The government of the Junta Leader in Guinea, Colonel Mamady Doumbouya, has instituted a commission of inquiry to look into the management of the country’s resources since post-independence.
Doumbouya said this in Guinea's capital, Conakry during the visit of the Mano River Union (MRU) diplomatic delegation on Sunday 5th December 2021.
The Junta Leader while addressing the delegation that pledged to support the National Council of Transition; which comprises the military said they are willing to effect a transition, but they need to correct issues surrounding corruption and indiscipline in the Country.
Doumbouya said, “Hence all these are achieved then we are sure of a good Guinea with clean political leadership. We don't want to do a new election and give power to new thieves". According to him, he had instructed his military personnel to return to their barracks.
He added that "We are only here to change the condition in Guinea, I have constituted the National transition Committee, and all political prisoners have been freed”.
He thanked the Delegation for the visit and assured them of his fullest support to promoting peace in the region. Doumouya also discussed security issues with Sierra Leone's Minister of Defense, Retired Brigadier-General, Kellie Hassan Conteh.
While sending his greeting to the three Presidents in the MRU sub-region, He extended his appreciation to Sierra Leone’s President, Julius Maada Bio for being the first President to pay a visit to his country since his intervention.
The Head of the Delegation, Liberia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gbehzohngar Milton Findley, in his two-day diplomatic visit with the Junta Leader, said they want to maintain the already fraternal relationship that has existed within the MRU.
He said the visit is a result of the outcome of the Communique that was signed on the 22nd-23rd November in Liberia this year which aimed at attaining peace, security, and democracy that was signed.
Findley said the MRU Countries have helped each other whenever there is a crisis such as War, natural disasters,s and security issues. He added that fraternal bond was what the MRU is replicating in supporting Guinea to have a peaceful and timely transition. He assured Guineans of their security within the MRU neighbouring countries.
Guinea’s Foreign Minister, Dr. Morisanda Kouyateh welcoming the delegation on Sunday morning, thanked them for their proactive contribution to the MRU. He said Guineans were suffering and that the current Government has no other determination but to change the current deplorable status of Guineans.
Mamady Doumbouya overthrew the 83-years-old President Alpha Conde during his third term in office as president of Guinea, in September this year.
