Sierra Leone’s First Lady Madam Fatima Bio has supported a fund- raising drive by the Pessima Foundation. The Fund raising dance and dinner held on the 22nd December 2021, according to the organizers was to help needy communities in Sierra Leone.
Speaking at the event, founder of the foundation Desmond Pessima, said it was launched in Sierra Leone in December last year by the Anti-Corruption Commissioner Francis Ben Keifela.
“We established the foundation as a general charitable foundation to help local communities fight hunger, poverty, disease, and other press to human dignity. We will do everything within our powers to restore human dignity and to make sure the least person in the communities have to live a worthy," he said.
He said 10 motor bikes and 5 trycicles were distributed last year to community youths.
He added that the foundation is engaged in Agriculture and that they have cultivated 70 acres of Cassava in Freetown and by the Bo High way. He said they had an agreement with the community and gave them 120 Acres of land which was used to cultivate cassava and 50 acres of Rice.
Pessima said his foundation also extended support to the Kenema Pediatric ward with a machine. As part of their interventions, he said they supported communities with food and nonfood items at the outbreak of covid and as well as engaged in community sensitization.
Speaking at the event, the First Lady said she was delighted to be with the Pessima foundation again as she was with them at the official launch of the foundation.
“Am happy to hear the interventions Pessima foundation is doing for the country. Even in the Western countries, their governments don't do everything. We need to give support to this people to do more and more for our people", Madam Bio said.
Albert Sesay, a beneficiary who stays at York in Goderich, on behalf of his colleagues thanked the foundation for helping them. He said the foundation has put food on their table, and promised to make good use of the opportunity.
