The Operations Team of the Sierra Leone Police, Kabala Divisional Headquarters, acting within the mandate of the National Task Force on Human Trafficking, has intercepted 57 persons about to be trafficked to Mali.

The 57 individuals include 26 female adults, 14 male children, and 17 female children on the 16th of March, 2024.

A public notice issued by the National Task Force on Human Trafficking on the 18th of March 2024 indicated that the children are between the ages of 2 months to 15 years.

It noted that the police arrested Mohamed Amadu Jalloh of 19 City Road, Portee, and Mohamed Sankoh of 5 Coker Lane, Portee all in Freetown for conducting a criminal enterprise to traffic the aforementioned 57 persons out of the country.

According to the notice, it has so far been alleged that the victims were taken from “Freetown, through Makeni and Kabala in preparation to go through the porous borders of Koinadugu district to neighboring Guinea.”

In line with the National Referral Mechanism, the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU), Family Support Unit (FSU), and Criminal Investigation Department (CID) within the Sierra Leone Police are said to be investigating the matter whilst the presumed victims are being referred to the Ministry of Social Welfare and the Anti-Trafficking in persons Task Force Secretariat for Psychosocial support.
