In a bid to open up to the public on its activities, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) of Sierra Leone says it has established an information desk at its head office which will serve as a point of contact for people seeking such information.

The ACC said in a statement on Wednesday the idea was to provide information to members of the public on the Commission and the work of all its departments.

The information desk, which is situated at its Gloucester Street Headquarters, is also a fulfilment of requirements in the Right to Access Information which, among others, require public officers and offices to ensure that “every person has the right to access information held by or is under control of a public authority,” according to the Commission.

“This development is in tandem with the desire of the Commission to continue to make the people of Sierra Leone fully abreast with the work of the Commission and for journalists, researchers, students and interested entities to have on-demand, access to information beyond public relations,” the statement signed by the Director of Public Education and External Outreach, reads in part.

The statement warned that individuals seeking information should be specific on the information they seek, promising that such information would be “readily available within a given time; except where the release of such information will affect ongoing investigation or be against public interest.”

The development represents a significant leap for the ACC as an institution fighting graft.
