Mid-week roundup

Parade conjure home spirit for first win of the season

On Wednesday, Central Parade finally showed up. They defeated Anti-Drugs 3-0. This was the Parade everyone has been missing. They were playing at their home venue for the first time this season. They were slick and purposeful. Their opponents were lost and confused.

That win was their first win of the season. Will they take their next home games to the National Stadium? Well, wait and see.

FC Kallon lose unbeaten run

This season, the premier league has been fiercely competitive. This was bound to happen and at some point but very few would have expected that Diamond Stars will be the team to end FC Kallon’s unbeaten run.

Kono is a difficult place, but last season FC Kallon won there 3-0. The Diamond Stars team played so badly that the fans invaded the pitch by halftime and demanded the coach be sacked.

Bizarrely enough, that coach left this Diamond Stars team almost two weeks ago. Is this the turning point for the Eastern region heavyweights?

For FC Kallon: they must put their act together very quick. They face East End Lions in their next game, in what could be a title deciding match by the end of the season.

Waterfront Boys wash Johansen away in six goals thriller

Ports Authority: a team that can frustrate and excite any fan in equal measure. Fresh from their defeat to Kamboi Eagles, they somehow bounced back and blew away this young FC Johansen side.

It was a thrilling first half performance with both sides leveling 2-2 by halftime. Goals have been scarce in this league, but somehow the Waterfront Boys produced the magic that was needed to eviscerate FC Johansen by scoring two more goals in the second half.

Ports Authority striker, Julius Goba, became the first player to score hatrick in the league.

For Madam Boys, this is a learning curve. Ports Authority is the only top six side to have defeated them this season. So, they have been great right up to now. But Ports have shown them that they still have a lot to learn.

A look into the weekend

Diamond Stars Vs FC Johansen

It’s a busy weekend in Freetown, so all the actions will be unfolding in the provinces. In Kono, Diamond Stars will be aiming to pickoff after their momentous win against FC Kallon.

Their opposition, FC Johansen, have shown that they don’t go down without a fight. So, caretaker coach, Aiah Lebbie will have to be at his best to take keep all three points in Koidu City.

Two wins in a row will give the team some belief ahead of the break.

FC Johansen will have to recover very soon. After conceding 4 goals on Wednesday night, there is a need for some soul searching.

The two teams play on Saturday in Koidu City at 4pm.

Bo Rangers Vs Ports Authority

Rangers hosts Ports Authority. Fresh from scoring 4 past FC Johansen, they will hope to replicate their form away from Freetown.

Rangers have lost their momentum; a couple of wins could probably change their season but as it stands, they are lost. But having said that, they are still 5th with 19 points, just a point away from the leaders, Eastern Tigers.

Ports Authority who are 6th have 18 points.

They both face each other at the Bo mini stadium on Sunday, 4:30pm
