An agreement to enable a company TRANSCO transmit electricity from Cote D’ Ivoire to Sierra Leone was on the 17th December signed in the Ivorian capital between the company and Sierra Leone’s Acting Director General at the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) Ing. James Rogers.
This expansive power transmission service will also lit up the neighbouring countries of Guinea and Liberia. Bo and Kenema are two areas that will immediately start to benefit directly from the expected steady supply of electricity. The signing according to the Ministry’s Communication Expert, Austin Lusani is be a procedural continuation to the Power Purchase Agreement.
Rogers spoke about the commitment of President Julius Maada Bio to improve electricity supply for the people of Sierra Leone. He used the occasion to also commend Minister of Energy Alhaji Kanja Sesay for his relentless efforts in ensuring that the power project is actualized.
TRANSCO’s General Manager, Mohamed M. Sheriff applauded Sierra Leone for the swift progress on work related to the project and especially completion of work on some of its key substations.
Sheriff who signed on behalf of his company explained that they are ready to impact the lives of all member states in the region and by providing and supplying affordable and reliable electricity. He said he was aware of the pressure the government has been going through especially from the targeted beneficiaries of the project. He said their company will step up work to get power running.
On the 1st December 2021, Sierra Leone and Cote d’Ivoire signed the power project agreement. Sierra Leone’s Vice president Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh had earlier on the 30th November visited Cote d’Ivoire’s President Alhassane Ouattara to deliver a letter given to him by President Julius Madaa Bio in relation to theelectrification project. President Ouattara had assured the VP of their support to Sierra Leone to achieve energy security.
