A native of Fonikoh Massaquoi, Galiness Chiefdom in Pujehun district on Monday, 30 May 2022, fed over 200 pupils of the RC Primary School in the village and provided drugs to the school.
Speaking to Politico Fatmata Khella said she started feeding the school kids in 2008 and has been doing so, whenever she visits the country.
"This is an ongoing process. I know this is my home. This is where I was born and I need to give back to this community", she said.
She said she had in the past brought a lot of school supplies amounting to 30 boxes which was a big moment for the community.
“Before, I brought food, used clothing, and toys for our children. Three years ago, I decided to go into school feeding. The last time we did school feeding was in December last year", she noted.
She expressed delight at the level of appreciation, shown by the children whenever she visits Fonikoh Massaquoi and believed she too is complementing the government’s school feeding programme.
Khella stated that President Julius Maada Bio is empowering the children and as a citizen of Sierra Leone, she has a role to play to help the government with its development activities.
“When kids are fed, they will become excited to learn. This help I am rendering is from my own pocket. Sometimes my own child helps. All these years I have not been around. I don't want to form NGO overseas because I don't know the implications", she said.
She revealed that school enrolment has increased because people in other communities are sending their children to RC Primary School at Fonikoh Massaquoi because of her donation of learning materials.
She called on other people to come around and support the kids as she alone cannot do everything.
Town Chief of Fonikoh Massaquoi, Mohamed Sillah thanked Khella for her support to the chiefdom and described her effort as exemplary.
Chief Sillah later told Politico that they are in need of pipe-borne water, and other social amenities, and would need assistance also to have an unfinished school building completed.
