COVID-19 impacts on schools in Sierra Leone

In May 2020, a woman; name withheld due to an ongoing court case, hired a private teacher for her 12-year old daughter, who had been out of school since the end of March 2020 when schools were closed as part of COVID-19 prevention measures. In July of that same year, she found out the teacher had sexually abused her young daughter. 

A Bridge on the edge in Sierra Leone's capital

All those using the Blackhall Road axis to enter Kissy will notice the infamous Kissy Brook Bridge. The tag “infamous” is deliberate because it is the only bridge on Blackhall Road before one arrives at PWD Junction. But that is not the bridge of concern for now. Although this one too has its own issues, let’s leave it for another day.

It was 5 in the morning and we found our way through the moonless morning dew. As we moved closer from Thomas Avenue towards Cape Road, the staccato of steps from other people made an incessant clatter to which my attention was drawn to in split seconds. It was my notion that if I get up early, I would be able to do my NCRA registration as earliest as possible since I had with me my ID card and hence needed only to verify my information. I was with two ladies –one in her twenties; the other in her mid-thirties.
