Over 85% of college students in Sierra Leone use illegal drugs – FBC SU President

Over 85% of college students are using illegal drug substances like Kush, Tramadol, and Ecstasy among others, said the Students’ Union President of Fourah Bay College (FBC), Alfred M. Sesay, expressing his taught in a press conference organized by the National Union of Sierra Leone Students (NUSS) on 4th of April this year, in which they discussed solutions on how to combat Kush and other harmful substances.

Mines Minister accuses Sierra Rutile of “illegal” shutdown

Sierra Leone's Minister of Mines and Mineral Resources, Julius Mattai has accused Sierra Rutile Company of suspending its operations illegally and had refused to present the required document to the ministry for review.

He called on all relevant authorities in the mining sector to come on board to ensure that the “right” thing is done, as he briefed the media on his ministry’s challenges at the Foreign Affairs Ministry conference room, Freetown on 26th March 2024.

The future of Sierra Rutile Mining Company hangs in the balance as the company continues negotiations with the government of Sierra Leone to resolve tax issues, missing its own proposed date of resumption originally set at April 11, 2024.

An email sent by the company’s Human Resource Officer Barry Honnah to staff and widely shared on social media announces “an extension of our temporary suspension until further notice”. Many industry watchers have described this as a euphemistic way of saying the suspension is indefinite.

Witness confirms November 26 prison break

Morlai Conteh, a Correctional Service officer, has testified at the ongoing treason trial in connection to the November 26, 2023 failed coup, which he was inside the Pademba Road Correctional Centre when unknown persons broke in the prison and freed inmates.
