Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister hails agreement as a watershed

Like all other elections in Sierra Leone since the restoration of democracy in 1996, the results of the polls of 24 June 2023 were contested. Even the one in 2002, when incumbent president Ahmad Tejan Kabbah won by the most decisive victory in the country’s democratic history with more than 70% of the votes, the losing candidate Ernest Bai Koroma faulted the result.

MPs want children off the streets of Sierra Leone

Many children across the country are homeless, some engaged in street trading instead of going to school, whilst others spend most of their nights fetching water, forfeiting sleep that would have put them in a better state to be ready for school the following morning, according to Members of Parliament during Debate.

Kaitibie was speaking at the Life Skills Training Beneficiaries graduation ceremony organized by Handicap International under a project titled “Touching Minds, Raising Dignity”  held in Freetown on 26th October 2023.

Freetown Mayor takes oath of office

Following the outcome of the mediation exercise to resolve the political impasse between the All People’s Congress (APC) Party and President Julius Maada Bio-led government, the reelected Mayor of Freetown Yvonne Aki Sawyer has taken oath of office.

The Swearing in Ceremony which also included Chairperson for Western Area Rural and Councilors for Urban and Rural, was administered by the Minister of Local Government,Ambassador Tamba Lamina at the ministry’s conference room on 26th of October 2023.

CARL validates Correctional Service Act

The Centre for Accountability and Rule of Law (CARL) in collaboration with the Sierra Leone Correctional Service (SLCS) has concluded a two-day validation session for the proposed amendments to the Sierra Leone Correctional Service Act.

The exercise was held at the New Brookfields Hotel in Freetown from the 24th to the 25th of October 2023.
