Sierra Leone president condemns autocratic rule

At the third annual lecture in African studies at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, USA, President Julius Maada Bio condemned autocratic rule, saying it no longer suits the aspirations or the demands of the modern era.

He said leaders must shape a future rooted in optimism, democracy, and the rich potential of varied populations, ensuring Africa's sustainable prosperity in a globally interconnected world.

Kono tops physical assault cases in Sierra Leone, again – Rainbo Initiative

Kono District has recorded the highest physical assault cases for the second year running, according to a report by the Rainbo Initiative covering the six districts in which the institution operates.

Based on the Gender Based Violence (GBV) Survivor Incident Report 2023, which was launched on the 20 March 2024, the institution received ninety-four (94) reports from the district, a figure that represents 47.5% of total physical assault cases reported across the six districts.

Labour Ministry to act tough on work permit

Commenting on their press release dated 19th of March this year, which speaks to the compliance to the Work Permit Act 2023, Acting Director General, Ministry of Employment Labour Social Security, Sinneh Bockarie has told Politico that foreign workers defaulting on payments for work permit will face fines and other penalties.

Bockarie made this statement to Politico in an exclusive interview on 22nd March, 2024. He spoke of conducting routine checks to ensure compliance, and that there will be no excuse for defaulters.

A call for Sierra Leone to address water supply

As World Water Day was observed on Friday 22nd March, people living in Communities within the Western Urban Area have, in an interview with Politico, called on the Government to address what they say is the inconsistent supply of water.

Politico visited Brookfields, Model, Allen Town, Calaba Town, Kissy Shell communities among others, where residents expressed dismay over the water shortages.

PSRU reviews Tourism management, functions

World TB Day: MSF calls for support to Sierra Leone

The Medical Co-ordinator of Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) in Sierra Leone, Dr. Kennedy Uadiale, has in commemoration of 2024 World Tuberculosis (TB) day, called on other partners to support Sierra Leone in the treatment.

24th March every year is world TB day and the theme for this year is “Yes! We can end TB.”

MSF is in collaboration with the Ministry of health ministry providing treatment and management of TB in the northern district and regional headquarters of the country.
