Calls for a disability friendly parliament in SIerra Leone

Member of Parliament representing constituency 027 Francis Saa Bendu has called on the leadership of parliament to ensure that the environment and access to the well are disabled-friendly. The MP made this call during the debate of the presidential speech.

Bendu said that access to the Chamber of parliament is not disabled-friendly.

Sierra Leonean based in USA support school in pujehun

A native of Fonikoh Massaquoi, Galiness Chiefdom in Pujehun district on Monday, 30 May 2022, fed over 200 pupils of the RC Primary School in the village and provided drugs to the school. 

Speaking to Politico Fatmata Khella said she started feeding the school kids in 2008 and has been doing so, whenever she visits the country.

"This is an ongoing process. I know this is my home. This is where I was born and I need to give back to this community", she said. 

Sierra Leone makes progress in budget transparency

 Sierra Leone has improved in the global ranking in areas of transparency, public participation, and budget oversight in government policies and implementation, according to the 2021 Open Budget Survey Report that was presented by Budget Advocacy Network (BAN).

The report says Sierra Leone’s transparency score increased from 39% in 2019 to 45% in 2021, budget oversight from 42% to 46%, and public participation from 14% to 31%.

SLEIC to improve quality education in primary schools

Sierra Leone Education Innovation Challenge (SLEIC) in partnership with the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE), Education Outcome Fund (EOF) and others are targeting more than 136,000 primary pupils in 325 schools across the 16 districts of Sierra Leone to improve the quality of learning in schools.

Guma Valley repairs Mile 13 Dam Tunnel

As part of the Freetown Water Supply Rehabilitation Project funded by UKAid, the Guma Valley Water Company on Friday 27th May 2022 completed maintenance work and replacements of the leaking Scour and Gate Valves at the Guma Dam Tunnel at Mile 13.

The work according to a report by the company’s communication unit is expected to save about 6 million liters of water per day, “enough water to serve 50,000 people.”

Bo Rangers clinch Sierra Leone’s Premier League as the police and army teams among those relegated

The runaway leaders of the Sierra Leone Premier League were on Sunday crowned as the Champions of football in the country. 

Fresh from their 4-0 drubbing of Central Parade at the Bo mini-stadium, to go 16 points clear of their nearest rivals East End Lions, Bo Rangers were presented with the trophy at a colorful ceremony.

Ahead of the weekend match, the hosts were treated to a guard of honour by Central Parade FC.
